On the other hand, Arabic is a major world language, spoken by 310 million people world-wide and is the main language across North Africa and the Middle East.

The Arabic Language

The most widely understood version of Arabic is Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) which is the official language of 26 different states or countries. MSA is used in most current, printed Arabic publications, spoken by Arabic media across North Africa and the Middle East, and understood by most educated Arabic speakers. Colloquial or dialect Arabic refers to the many national or regional varieties which constitute the everyday spoken language. Whilst Colloquial Arabic has many regional variants all countries can use Modern Standard Arabic.

So a new learner of Arabic is wise to aim for Modern Standard Arabic. However, how can you be sure it is for you? Will you feel comfortable learning this new and very different language?

Start Learning Arabic

There are three separate things you can do to start learning Arabic, to see if it is for you, two free and one costing very little!

Firstly: consider a Free Arabic Course. You have nothing to lose, by trying six free lessons. You will quickly see if you like speaking Arabic or not!

 

Secondly: Learn about reading and writing Arabic with this reasonably priced guide which is written by an acknowledged Arabic language author.
