Top Memory TipsWhen learning something new there is always a lot of stuff to remember.
There are ways to help this process, and soon a lot of the new stuff will become second nature. Here are our top memory tips.

Index Cards/Postcards

Keep a stack of cards close by. Use them to write down key facts and principles and carry the cards with you at all times. Use them in all those odd moments and minutes where you have time to spare. On the bus or train, waiting in a queue, waiting for an appointment, in between events,  etc.  You get the idea!

Audio

Similarly, if appropriate, make sure that your audio player has plenty of material you can use. It may be some material that is part of your course, or why not make your own! Like index cards you will have plenty of opportunities to use it. Regular repetition of audio input is a great way to learn.

Principles before Facts

It’s easier to learn principles before facts. Focus on understanding the how and why, and the what and when will be easier to remember.

RRR

Regularly Review and Reflect.
Reflecting and reviewing what you have learned helps complete the picture and to gain a view of the new learning and where it fits in to your experience. It also helps give the new learning greater meaning.
Use charts, diagrams, mind-maps, summaries, etc. to help you RRR

Test, Test, Test

Testing is a good way to check your progress. Many learning modules come with self-test units. Use them!
If you are preparing for public examinations, use past questions from previous examinations.
Past questions, in my view, help form the best revision plan possible. They are focused on the required knowledge and obviously set at the right standard.

Learning Buddy

Leaning Buddies are a great way to promote your learning and to use and discuss what you have learned. They also help you to feel less isolated.
Many internet learning packages make use of a ‘learning lounge’ concept where you you can ask questions and make contact with similar learners to yourself.
